At No. 6 on my list of Top 10 Performances of 2004 was Tina Marsh and Eddy Hobizal at the Umlauf Sculpture Garden. The teaming of this exceptional vocalist and remarkable jazz pianist for an evening of cabaret standards, pop favorites, and arias was so exquisite, I wrote, that it made our ears weep. It was the kind of show that you wanted to take home with you and listen to over and over again. Well, now you can. Marsh, Hobizal, and cellist Terry Muir have recorded much of that delectably eclectic program – including Leonard Cohen’s “Anthem,” Puccini’s “Nessun Dorma,” Ornette Coleman’s “Lonely Woman,” Ray Noble’s “The Very Thought of You,” and (sigh) Rodgers and Hart’s “Where or When” – and they’re hosting a CD release party Friday, July 22, 7-10pm, at the Barr Mansion, 10463 Sprinkle. The evening, which benefits the Creative Opportunity Orchestra, features a live performance, great food, and a chance to have the song of your choice recorded exclusively for you by Marsh and Hobizal.
