Hurricane Isaac #1, by Kenny Braun Credit: Photo By Kenny Braun

Longtime Austin photographer and surfer Kenny Braun has spent years on the Gulf Coast, shooting the waves when he wasn’t shooting the curl, and now University of Texas Press has had the good sense to collect his images into a lovely, large-format book. Surf Texas, which boasts a foreword by Stephen Harrigan and design by Pentagram Texas, captures coastal life so vividly you’ll start smelling salt in the air. Stephen L. Clark Gallery is marking its release with an exhibit of Braun’s photographs from March 22 to May 17. The opening reception and booksigning will be as much of a beach party as you can muster on West Sixth, with surf music from the Thunderchiefs. The fun happens Saturday, March 22, 6-9pm, at 1101 W. Sixth. For more information, call 512/477-0828 or visit www.stephenlclarkgallery.com.
