The thing about summer vacation is that – for many of us – it’s not.

Sure, the kids are off for three blissful months, but the rest of us workaday masses while away the hours in our cubicles the same as any other day. If you’re lucky enough to have planned a summer getaway, you’ll no doubt snag a book off the shelves to occupy your time on the plane, in the airport, on the beach, etc. If you can’t get away physically, though, why not sneak an escape through a literary world?

Reading is the ultimate escape act, and between Afghan families and werewolf uprisings, one of these books is bound to be the getaway you need. And who knows? You might just become so engrossed you don’t even regret your mini-staycation.
