Fashionable women all over the city have been mourning the passing of Pink hair salon on South Congress since it closed last June. Yes, I know that you, your sister, and practically every stylish celebrity in Austin went there for perfect highlights and eye-catching cuts for ten years.
It’s time to let it go. Stella Blue, the new salon opening in Pink’s old space, is having their grand opening Thursday, April 1. It’s not pink, in fact, the new salon’s design is so different that the space is barely recognizable, but something new and refreshing. If Pink was your favorite pair of comfortable, broken-in shoes, Stella Blue is your new pair of Manolos.
The owners took pains when remodeling to preserve the buildings historic integrity, and the interior is dazzling. Filled with light, the space has been transformed into a cool blue and silver wonderland. The selection of hand-picked clothing is impeccably stylish and cutting edge, the staff is mellow and friendly, and the haircuts are reasonably priced. Monica, the owner of Stella Blue, rescued me a few weeks ago when I needed last minute highlights for a fancy film party. I went in a haggard looking mom and came out a glamorous superstar. She even did my makeup opening my mind to the world of red lipstick which I’d never thought suited me before. Now it’s my favorite, and my hair looks amazing. See you at the grand opening bash this Thursday!
