One of the reasons Austin is a great place to raise a brood is our great variety of summer camps, and this summer is no exception. With everything from theater to natural science instruction to choose from, Chronique reminds you that today home sewing remains as important a survival skill as, say, spelunking, right?

It is as necessary a skill today as the craft of gift wrapping was to ladies of the 1950’s. But in the case of sewing, you get to wrap yourself. No pressure, though. You can find out all you need to know about Stitch Lab‘s summer class schedule here. You’ll find a special summer program for kids, as well as classes for adults, so the genesis of that back-to-school wardrobe can begin now, and everyone can develop an alternative to the mall.

Stitch was founded by the inestimable Leslie Bonnell, a costume designer, in 2001, and moved to its craftsman cottage location (1000 S. First, 440-0712) in November 2009. For over a decade, Stitch has been making the world safe for a home sewing renaissance, so make sure to get the family rounded up for some fabric shopping and inspiration. Who knows? You may have a future Council of Fashion Designers of America honoree on your hands.
