SAT, DEC 21: D. Marion Wilkinson, author of Not Between Brothers: An Epic Novel
of Texas, will be at Book Stop from 2-4pm for a booksigning. In his book,
Wilkinson weaves a gripping tale of fact and fiction of the territory’s often
bloody history.
* SUN, DEC 29: Attorney Bert Pluymen will give a speech and appear for a
booksigning at the Unity Church of the Hills (in Williamson Square Shopping
Plaza on Anderson Mill Road) for his book The Thinking Person’s Guide to
Sobriety.
* ONGOING: The Austin Writers’ League (AWL) is taking entries for two awards
programs. The Young Texas Writers’ Scholarship program is open to Texas High
School students, awarding 12 scholarships in the areas of poetry, short story,
essay, and journalism. The Teddy Book Award is a $1,000 prize for the best
children’s book written by an AWL member. Authors may join the AWL at the time

and Another Time is an exhibition celebrating the literary career of the
novelist and UT alumna from her first novel to the 1996 publication of her
15th. Showing through Jan. 31 in the Wrenn Room on the seventh floor of the
Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center…
Shouting in the Evening: British
Theater, 1956-96, is a major exhibition exploring the creative impulses and
performances that shaped the last 40 years of British theatre, looking at the
works of Samuel Beckett, Caryl Churchill, David Hare, Joe Orton, John Osborne,
Harold Pinter, Tom Stoppard, Timberlake Wertenbaker, and others. In the Leeds
Gallery on the fourth floor of the Flawn Academic Center, through Jan. 31.
