debutnovel, City in Love, at Book People, 7pm… Rosemary Wells
autographs her new book, My Very First Mother Goose at Toad Hall,
10am-noon.

* FRI, NOV 22: Local blues musician Brian Robertson will have a release
party for his first book, The Little Blues Book, at Book People at 7pm.
The book is a compilation of lyrics from blues classics and obscurities, and
illustrations by noted comic artist R. Crumb.

* SAT, NOV 23: William Broyles, Jr., will sign copies of his Brothers in
Arms: A Journey From War to Peace,
at Bookstop Central Park, 2-4pm. Broyles
is the founding editor of Texas Monthly, co-creator/writer of the TV
series China Beach, and co-author of the Apollo 13 screenplay…
Howard Schechter will discuss his Rekindling the Spirit in Work: How to Be
Yourself on the Job
at Book People at 5pm…Felicia Bond will host a
children’s story time and drawing activity, as well as sign her latest book,
Tumble Bumble, at Borders at 2pm.

* MON, NOV 25: Sherman Alexie appears in support of his new novel, Indian
Killer
, at Book people, 7pm.

* TUE, NOV 26: Words in Progress (WIP) is back! The place for Austin writers,
both known and undiscovered, to read their works in progress is now Book People
on the second and fourth Tuesday of the month. This week, Jan Grape (mystery),
Brad Buchholz (nonfiction book), and more, 7-9pm on the third floor. WiP is
also accepting submissions — screenplays & nonfiction are especially

* ONGOING: The Austin Writers’ League (AWL) will be awarding more than $50,000
in literature grants in 1997. Two types of grants are available: project grants
up to $2,500 and operating grants up to $5,000. Individuals and organizations,
including college programs outside the regular academic program, may apply.
After reading the guidelines, applicants should submit a brief letter of intent
to the AWL by Dec. 1, 1996. Call 499-8914
