Novelist, autobiographer, and screenwriter Don J. Snyder will read at the Katherine Anne Porter Literary Center on both Monday, Oct. 23, and Wednesday, Oct. 25, at 7:30pm, followed by a booksigning and reception. He is a graduate of the Iowa Writer’s Workshop, and is the writer of three books of fiction and two nonfiction works, Of Time and Memory: A Mother’s Story and The Cliffwalk: A Memoir of a Job Lost and a Life Found, both of which are being made into movies. Synder is also the writer of several screenplays and is currently completing a book and screenplay set in Northern Ireland. On Friday, Oct. 27, he’ll join fiction writers and SWT faculty Debra Monroe and Tom Grimes in an open forum Q&A about the writing of fiction and memoir at the KAP Literary Center at 2pm. The symposium, a biennial event, honors Cowles and her brief but legendary tenure at Flair magazine. Up for discussion this year is the state of the library in the 21st century, but authors Diane Johnson (Le Mariage, Le Divorce), James Salter, and playwright Arnold Wesker will be in attendance as well.
