Writers at the Met, an evening of conversation, readings, and booksignings sponsored by the Austin Writers’ League and the Metropolitan Club (600 Congress Avenue, 13th floor). Presentation of the annual Teddy Children’s Book Award. From 7-9pm with authors Robert Bitterli, Chuck Meyer, Susie Flatau, John Kelso, Julie Ortolon, Christopher Reich, Karen Stolz, and Angela Shelf Medearis. Open and free to the public. “Murder Is Criminal,” a panel discussion at Adventures in Crime & Space, from 3-4:30pm with Jay Brandon, Mary Willis Walker, and Darryl Wimberley.
In Salado, Liz Carpenter hosts a Readers and Writers Roundup at the Central Texas Area Museum (One Main Street) at 2pm with Stephen Harrigan, Lawrence Wright, Alice Pierce, Karen Thompson, and Lynda Welch Barefield.
May 15
Announcement of Literary Subgrants and Fellowships for 2000, presented by the Austin Writers’ League with grants from the Texas Commission on the Arts at the Austin Writers’ League Resource Center, 1501 W. Fifth, at 2pm.
May 16
Dallasite and Mt. Everest survivor Beck Weathers will appear as a guest on John Aielli’s Eklektikos on KUT 90.5FM at 11am to discuss his new book, Left for Dead: My Journey Home From Everest. That night at 7pm, Weathers will be at BookPeople.
May 17
Jim Marrs will present his new book Rule by Secrecy at BookPeople at 7pm.
May 18
Stephen Harrigan will read from and sign The Gates of the Alamo at BookPeople at 7pm.
