After only a year and just two productions, play! Theatre Group is canceling its ambitious plan to establish a new theatrical outpost at East 12th and Cedar. Last July, Artistic Director Lisa Scheps announced the purchase of the former Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness building with plans to renovate it for future productions of musicals and dramas. This spring, the company staged Marvin’s Room and a revival of Stuart Moulton’s cabaret piece, Life Upon the Wicked Stage, but last week Scheps announced the sale of its building and cancellation of all upcoming shows. No reasons for the move were provided.
