The National Endowment for the Arts has made its annual impersonation of St. Nick and dropped some federal funding into the stockings of five area arts groups. U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett, D-Travis, had the word on who’s been nice in the eyes of Santa NEA.
• Rude Mechanicals: $10,000 to support the development of an original adaptation of Giovanni Boccaccio’s The Decameron with playwright Kirk Lynn and director Shawn Sides in collaboration with ensemble members;
• Blue Lapis Light: $5,000 to support the creation of a site-specific work by choreographer Sally Jacques incorporating aerial acrobatics;
• Austin Film Society: $23,000 to support the presentation of a curated film and video series;
• Oscar Casares: $20,000 to support the completion of his novel Amèrico, based on his family’s migration from Northern Mexico to the United States; and
• Women & Their Work: $15,000 to support a series of solo exhibitions for young and emerging women artists of Texas.
