You know, in Austin, home theatre isn’t just big-screen TVs and surround-sound speakers. Once a year, it’s honest-to-God live performances in people’s houses. It’s a little tradition we call Mi Casa Es Su Teatro, and it’s one of the most offbeat and invigorating components of that offbeat and invigorating performance jamboree FronteraFest. For one Saturday in February, you have the opportunity to experience a little drama, a little comedy, a little who-knows-what in site-specific locations all across the city. This year, that Saturday is this Saturday, Feb. 10, and Shrewd Productions, which curated the 2007 Mi Casa, has lined up five intriguing shows.
11:30am: “Flatline in Midair”
Shrewd Productions serves up breakfast while presenting a story of suspended hope by Monika Bustamante. Limited to 15 people. 1100 Angelina.
1pm: “Radio Ghosts: An Electro-Theatre Collaboration”
Playwright Greg Romero is the motivating spirit behind this work inspired by Electronic-Voice Phenomenon and combining live performance and recorded sound. 103 Laurel.
2pm: “The FANTASTIC, TAPtastic ART-ival”
Theatre Action Project presents the teens of Changing Lives Youth Theatre Company in performance, with activity booths for kids, sing-alongs, and more. ALLGO, 701 Tillery.
3:15pm: “Big Box God”
Loaded Gun Theory hosts a tour of Hyde Park United Methodist Church by consultants Cynthia and Richard, who have a plan to compete with the big-box churches. Written by Timothy Thomas. HPUMC, 4001 Speedway.
4pm: “Spurt: A Coming of Age Valentine”
St. Idiot Collective explores the awkward transition from childhood to adulthood through the hell that is puberty in this sketch-comedy show. Limited to 12 people. 1118 Gillespie.
5:30pm: Mi Casa Wrap Party!
