A Random House rep just sent out the following e-mail:
“It is with great sadness that I report that John Updike died this morning at the age of 76, after a battle with lung cancer. He was one of our greatest writers, and he will be sorely missed.”
The hugely prolific Updike was best known for his Rabbit series, as well as for his frequent New Yorker pieces. His last novel, The Widows of Eastwick, came out in October.
