This week, friends and fans of Joe York, who passed away on Aug. 14, will celebrate his life and art in a public service Saturday, Sept. 8, 8pm, at the Beverly S. Sheffield Zilker Hillside Theater in Zilker Park. It’s a spot that was especially dear to the longtime local theatre artist, as he appeared in several Zilker Summer Musical productions there, and it was in those shows that he developed many of his dearest friendships. Zilker Theatre Productions Artistic Director Scott Schroeder will emcee the event, which will feature video of York from a number of shows he performed in, remembrances by Barbara Chisholm and this writer, and performances by a host of theatre luminaries, including Meredith McCall, Janis Stinson, Blake Yelavich, Laura Powell, Cathie Sheridan, Allen Robertson, Kara Bliss McGregor, Judy Arnold, Boni Hester, and Rebecca Schoolar. Everyone is welcome.
