For one member of the award-winning Jupiter String Quartet, the ensemble’s residency at the 9th Austin Chamber Music Festival and 25th Austin Chamber Music Workshop is more than another gig; it’s a homecoming. Cellist Daniel McDonough is a native Austinite and former student at the Austin Chamber Music Academy, where he was part of ACMA’s scholarship string quartet “without a doubt, my formative chamber music experience,” he says. With violinists Nelson Lee and Meg Freivogel and violist Liz Freivogel, McDonough has gone on to international acclaim, winning the Banff International String Quartet and Fischoff Competitions. To hear this hometown hero, catch the Jupiter String Quartet in concert Monday, July 18, 7:30pm, St. James’ Episcopal Church, 3701 E. MLK; Wednesday, July 20, 1pm, St. Stephen’s Episcopal School, 2900 Bunny Run; Thursday, July 21, 7:30pm, St. Stephen’s; and in the festival finale Friday, July 22, 7:30pm, St. Stephen’s.
