Lyova Rosanoff is one of the key players in the earliest incarnations of Downtown company bastion Esther’s Follies, responsible for some of the show’s classics, including “The Jalapeño Chorus” (a send-up of Handel’s “Hallelujah Chorus”), making a name for herself behind the piano for 28 years as the hilarious troupe’s music director.
(Rosanoff was also a pivotal component to the roving troupe, mostly Esther’s actors, that went on the campaign trail with soon-to-be Governor Ann Richards, back in those days of (you may recall) less egregious governorship. The former music director still hosts jazz musicians and chamber players in her Hyde Park home.)
And now, citizen – this Sunday, Sept. 24, 1-5pm – there’s a tribute to Rosanoff and an overview of her work – featuring a reunion of Follies folks from past and present, with special appearances by Kathy Valentine, Linda Wetherby, De Lewellen, Kerry Awn, Ingo Neuhaus, David Perkoff, and more.
