The coven of vintage boutiques that includes Prototype Vintage Design, New Bohemia, and Buffalo Exchange is up to its old tricks again: The third annual Fashion Freakout happens this Friday, February 5, once again at Mohawk. Freakout is a little different from the other 16,000 runway shows in Austin these days.
For one thing, since the garments are all vintage, one can enjoy the show without the burden of knowing that designer(s) are backstage biting their nails to the quick. The publicists are probably actually enjoying themselves, and the party itself is much looser at a result. Fashion Freakout really is a party, which is probably why the last two, first at United States Art Authority in 2008, and then at Mohawk last year, are remembered so fondly. This year, Avant Salon puts the models through The Process, Matt Bearden does the honors, and the Carrots, along with DJ sets from Ben Blackout, and Angel the Ripper provide the soundtrack.
