Stephen Mills and a dozen Ballet Austin dancers are in Europe this week at the invitation of the State Department. The company was performing at the Festival Ljubljana in the Slovenian capital on Wednesday, July 13, and Friday, July 15, is off to Italy for the Festival Internazionale Abano Danza. Audiences abroad will get to see three of BA’s homegrown works: Mills’ “One/The Body’s Grace,” the second act of his 2003 ballet Touch, which won the Festival des Arts de Saint-Sauveur International Choreographic Competition in Montreal last summer; Ashes, the dance which earned Mills the only American spot at the 1998 Rencontres Choreographiques Internationales in Paris; and Free to Fly, by Gina Patterson, which won the Choo-San Goh Award for choreography in 2004.
