Congratulations to Forklift Danceworks on the successful completion of its Kickstarter campaign to raise $10,000 for the August encore run of The Trash Project. Four weeks after Artistic Director Allison Orr launched the drive at a press conference announcing the project’s return and almost two weeks before the April 1 deadline, pledges from 160 backers pushed it over the $10,000 goal. Even before that blessed event, though, Forklift had received a priceless gift: Joseph John Trabulsi-Orr, born Sunday, March 6, to Orr and husband Blake Trabulsi. Congratulations to the entire family! For more information (including photos of JoJo), visit www.forkliftdanceworks.org.
Want to see your artwork on a billboard? Austin Art Boards, a competition sponsored by Reagan National Advertising along with the Austin Visual Arts Association, is giving 10 local visual artists a shot at just that. Any visual artist in Travis, Hays, or Williamson counties may submit one original work in any medium (photographs of sculptural pieces are accepted), sized to 6-inch-by-24-inch scale. All submissions will be displayed on the contest’s website and Facebook page. One week after the June 24 deadline for entries, a panel of local artists will determine the winners, which will then be displayed on billboards around the city as space is available later in the summer. For more entry guidelines and information, visit www.austinartboards.org.
