Need help planning? The city’s Cultural Arts Division has your back. The latest workshop in its extremely useful Take It to the Next Level series is Creating a One-Year Strategic Plan for Artists. Management consultant Ben McConnell will guide participants through the OGST framework, helping them set objectives, goals, strategies, and tactics for the coming 12 months in a format simple enough to fit on a letter-size sheet of paper. The free workshop will take place Saturday, Sept. 18, 1-3:30pm, in Boards & Commissions Rm. 1101 of Austin City Hall, 301 W. Second. For more information, call 974-7860.

Leave it to an organization for writers to do a bit of strategic editing on its own name. Austin Script Works, now 13 years into its mission of providing support for playwrights, is dropping the geographic modifier and striking the space between the second and third words. The reason: The organization is expanding its services to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, and a quarter of its members are no longer locals. (Many join as university students, then retain their membership when they move to other cities.) ScriptWorks is not only a sleeker moniker but better reflects its status as a national force in theatre. For more information, call 589-4055 or visit www.scriptworks.org.
