Playwright/actress Amparo Garcia-Crow could use your good wishes and your support. She recently had emergency surgery to remove an ovarian malignancy, and though she’s recovering nicely she was temporarily without medical insurance at the time of the operation, so you can imagine how costly her medical bills are. You can help ease some of that burden by attending a benefit performance of Four Guys Named Jose … and Una Mujer Named María!, a musical revue that was a hit off Broadway and is being staged locally. The benefit will be Saturday, June 11, 2pm, at Jovita’s, 1619 S. First, and proceeds will directly benefit Garcia-Crow. For reservations, call 589-8994. Contributions may also be sent to: Amparo Garcia-Crow Benefit, c/o Prism Works/Inspirit Studios, 911 W. James, Austin, TX 78704.

Choreographer Sally Jacques will premiere her latest site-specific dance spectacle, Whispers of Heaven, next week, but you can get a sneak peek and help support the production by attending a benefit at the performance space, 3800 Drossett Ste. A, on Saturday, June 11, 7-10pm. The evening features a preview of the dance, a live musical performance, and live and silent auctions. Limited seating. For reservations, call 663-2441 or write Cybil at email@cybilg.com. For information, visit www.bluelapislight.org.
