Here’s how Aziz Ansari spent election night ’08: “I was at a pool party at Joe Biden’s house. He booked the Rock-afire Explosion, the animatronic band from Showbiz Pizza, to play the party, and they rocked it. Fatz Geronimo, the gorilla keyboard player, unfortunately did a superlong keg stand after Obama won and ended up puking in the hot tub, but other than that, it was a blast!”
No word on whether Fatz has made it out of the vice president-elect’s back yard, but Ansari has, and he’s headed our way this week with his Glow in the Dark Standup Comedy Tour. You may recall the comedian having visited the capital city once this year, playing South by Southwest as part of sketch comedy colossus Human Giant, which he co-created. This time he’s working solo (with Nick Kroll opening), and Ansari’s gig at Emo’s may be his last here for a while. His acting career has picked up major steam: roles in the films Funny People (Judd Apatow), Observe and Report (opposite Seth Rogen), and I Love You, Man (with Paul Rudd); a recurring role coming up on Scrubs; and a plum role in the sitcom being developed for Amy Poehler by the creative team from The Office. Catch him live while you still can.
The Glow in the Dark Standup Comedy Tour will be presented Friday, Dec. 19, 10pm, at Emo’s, 603 Red River. For more information, call 477-3667 or visit www.emosaustin.com.
