The Austin African American Book Festival returns in June featuring talks with a poet-filmmaker, a historical romance novelist, and a UT counseling psychologist.
According to today’s press release, this year’s festival “will explore love, perseverance, and intellectual growth under the heading ‘Black Lives Matter.’”
Special speakers include poet and filmmaker MK Asante, author of the acclaimed 2013 memoir, Buck; the prolific historical romance novelist Beverly Jenkins (the Blessings series); and University of Texas psychology professor Dr. Kevin Cokley, who has explored how issues of identity impact the achievement of African American students. The event will also include a Texas author showcase and children’s activities.
The ninth annual Austin African American Book Festival takes place Saturday, June 27, 10am-4pm, at the Carver Museum and Library. As always, the event is free and open to the public. Find out more at www.aabokfest.com.
