Growth, privatization, traffic, noise levels… ever feel like candidates for
city office talk about everything but the arts? Sure, we know those
other issues are serious, but culture is serious, too, and Allied Arts &
Audiences has made sure that the candidates for mayor and city council know
that. They’ve lined up a candidates’ forum on the arts for Tuesday, March 25,
8pm, on the Zachary Scott Theatre Center’s Kleberg Stage, 1421 W. Riverside.
Here’s a chance to hear — at last! — what the candidates think about the
arts, and to show them with your presence that the arts matter.

Open That ArtPlex!

Hot on the heels of Austin Visual Arts Association’s opening of their new
office in the Art Plex, the new visual arts haven at 1705 Guadalupe, the
Artists Coalition of Austin is opening its new exhibition space, the ACA
gallery, in the same venue. Thursday, March 20, from 6-9pm, you can get an
eyeful of the gallery and ACA’s members’ show, an earful of music by Ron Welch,
and a mouthful of catered snacks by Yoli. If you can’t stop by then, visit
during the gallery’s new regular hours: 10am-3pm Tuesday through Friday (plus
6-9pm Thursday) and noon-6pm Sunday.
