When singer-songwriter Bill Callahan went on tour to promote his 2011 record Apocalypse, filmmaker Hanly Banks and her camera tagged along for the U.S. leg. The result – an “hour-long concert film/tour documentary/psychedelic thingamajig” – has its Texas premiere at the Stateside on Sept. 14.

The evening will pair a screening of Apocalypse: A Bill Callahan Tour Film with a live performance by Callahan, the underground icon who formerly performed as Smog, and it’s all to benefit the kids. Specifically, the many opportunities for kids available at the Austin Bat Cave, a writing and tutorial center. Incidentally, Callahan has volunteered at ABC, and the night will include a short video profiling a songwriting workshop he led.

The fundraiser, called the Bat to School Bash, has a very special goal in mind: to raise enough money to finally make that long-wished-for, brick-and-mortar Bat Cave homebase happen.
