The postmark deadline for the 15th annual Austin Chronicle Short Story Contest is Dec. 15. A brief refresher: Your work must be unpublished, typewritten, and no more than 2,500 words; all entries must be accompanied by a separate cover letter, which contains the name, address, e-mail address, and phone number of the author, as well as the title of the story; the author’s name must not appear anywhere in the manuscript; and only one entry per person. Submit to Short Story Contest, PO Box 49066, Austin, TX 78765. For more information, see www.austinchronicle.com/shortstory.

As if your literary life could get any better: Issue 1.0 of Front Porch, the Web journal put out by Texas State MFA students Michael Wolfe, Evelyn Lauer, et al., and headed up by the great Tom Grimes, is available at www.frontporchjournal.com. It includes fiction, poetry, and essays from the likes of Roddy Doyle, Charles D’Ambrosio, Heather McHugh, Charles Wright, and Richard Ford. Highly recommended.
