A former fixture of the Austin lit scene, Amelia Gray may have flown the coop – she moved to Los Angeles last month – but you can keep track of her – or at least her work – from afar: Vice has posted a sneak peek of the first two chapters from Gray’s forthcoming novel.

Farrar, Straus & Giroux will publish Gray’s first novel, Threats, in March, 2012. She’s also the author of two collections, AM/PM and Museum of the Weird; you might also know her name from Five Things, the reading series she co-founded with Stacy Muszynski.

And speaking of: The next Five Things, on the subject of Ghostwriters, takes place this Wednesday, Nov. 9, 7:30-10:30pm at the 29th Street Ballroom at Spider House. Tiff Holland, Sayward Schoonmaker, Ralph Hardesty, Leah Kaminsky, and Susan Quesal. More info to be had here.

No Perch is another reading series (not local) that puts authors in uncommon places – a grocery story, say, or the back of a moped, in the case of Gray’s rather charming video. Take a look.
