Freelance News Reporter

The Austin Chronicle‘s news section is seeking Austin-based freelance journalists with news reporting experience to cover city and county happenings as well as produce deep-dive features on issues affecting or related to Austin, including but not limited to racial, economic, and social justice, public safety, the environment, housing, and reproductive rights.

Interested? Email the news department (newseditor@austinchronicle.com) with the subject “NEWS REPORTER” and the following: three published clips (print or digital media) demonstrating knowledge in your field, three story pitches, and a cover letter detailing relevant past experiences and why you’re a good fit for the Chronicle. 

Please note: This is not a staff position; writers are paid per article. However, we are looking to build long-term relationships with new writers.
