Happy Birthday to Q
Q Toys celebrates it's first birthday with a party

Toys make everything better. At least, that’s the belief that fuels Austin’s Q Toys. As the adult toy store celebrates its first birthday on Saturday that belief is clearly catching on and picking up steam.
Stephanie Boggs is the mastermind behind the (intentionally) ambiguously named shop, and she’s pretty excited about the progress Q Toys has made over the past year. “We saw tremendous growth and made a lot of people happy,” she laughs.
It is no surprise that Q Toys has many a satisfied costumer, considering the wide variety of toys, accessories, and grooming products they offer.
“Sex toys keep us sane between partners, and they can keep us safer in regards to hooking up,” Boggs notes. “They're empowering. Sex toys allow people to take agency over their own sexuality. They offer true self-exploration, particularly in learning things about ourselves that we can then share with partners.”
And if being an X-rated Santa wasn’t enough, Q Toys doesn’t end with what they sell. Q, according to the website, is also dedicated to being good community partners. Boggs has pledged to donate a share of the store’s profits to local organizations that help “women, LGBTQ, and people living with HIV/AIDS” – to the tune of nearly $1,000 in charitable donations.
In keeping with the good partners theme, Q Toys also offers a recycling program. Because – did you know? – these kinda toys can’t be thrown out with your weekly trash. Or, at least they shouldn’t be. “We recycled a lot of toys this year,” says Boggs. Q rewards all their recyclers with a $5 gift certificate per toy. That could really add up if played correctly.
In their first year, Q Toys has made some great memories, but Boggs says her number one moment was their rope bondage workshop. Why? “It was our first workshop to sell out. But people came anyway and just stood against the wall.”
Though the holidays and birthday parties have recently stalled workshop planning, Boggs promises there will be more to come. “We’ll be picking up these events in March, and from there we’ll have a more regular schedule.” And that’s just the tip of the … uh, nevermind.
More toys will be added to the stores inventory, certain lines will be expanded, and greater online sales will be offered, “so people can shop from the comfort of their home,” says Boggs. And with Valentines Day right around the corner, Q Toys is already planning some serious promotions.
As for Saturday’s birthday party, Boggs’ has a few tricks up her sleeve. Throughout the day there will some surprise specials announced on Facebook and Twitter. The party proper starts when the DJ gets there at 6pm, with music and the raffles. All ticket sales ($10 suggested donation) will go towards Project Transitions, and prizes include everything from toys to a waxing studio gift certificate. Appetizers, wine, and Tito’s vodka will be served.
