In addition to being the first Latin-American stylist to take the top honors twice, Ruiz is also now one of three stylists to have pulled off a double win.
Considered the "Academy Awards" of hairdressing, the NAHA are awarded annually in 14 categories and salute technical excellence and artistic expression. Ruiz’s award-winning collection paid homage to 1950s and -60s Americana, and was photographed by Jenny Hands, with make-up by Janell Geason. "My vision for the shoot was ‘It’ girls come undone,” says Ruiz. “Women who are perfectly done-up, but throughout the day gradually unravel, for a raw, almost moody look and feel.” Ruiz's editorial and campaign work has appeared in Vanity Fair, W, Shape, Harper’s Bazaar, and American Salon. Working as a creative consultant for Aveda, Ruiz currently serves as the company’s global style director for North America. Ruiz has also lent development insights and expertise to brands like Avon.
