In May of 2010 the North Loop shopping district received a great gift when Juliana Azar and Stacey Breakall opened Blackbird Clothes and Curios on the curve. Juliana, a native Austinite, and Stacey, founder of Kitty Kitty Bang Bang Texas Burlesque, met eight years ago.
They found they shared a love for fashion and the Austin boutique culture, so when
Scooter Revolution left the North Loop area they jumped on the chance to open their own shopping venue in that space. "We have always loved this building," says Stacey. So they transformed it into a wonderland of dark woods and boudoir kitsch with their own sense of elegant, grown-up goth. We felt like we were walking into
Miss Havisham's dressing room the night she was left standing at the alter by
Compeyson. Blackbird has affordable clothing and accessories for women and men, and most pieces are priced at or below $50. We especially loved the fleece gray and white long collared peacoat by
Sweet Miss ($58) and the owl print blouses by
Ya (sold out as of this posting). Blackbird's
Mae West Collection in women's sizes 10-18 is a welcome surprise, as is an eclectic collection of pocket watches for men and women. Blackbird takes all major credit cards and offers store cards for your gift-giving delight. Juliana told us they will be receiving new purses, jewelry, hats, scarves, and gloves in the first weeks of January. So stop by this North Loop boutique for a fun cocktail outfit or the perfect purse that will put a smile on your face and will surely be the envy of your pals.
