It’s a fact: Somewhere in America, Austin’s showered with accolades every 15 seconds. As a public service, Chronic is starting a new public-safety service Award Watch to protect yourself from the applause of the faceless marauders.
This week, the Austin Business Journal reports a brazen award episode, from the serial offenders at Men’s Journal:
“Austin ranks as one of the top five places to ’embrace urban life,'” according to a list of the 50 best places to live in April’s Men’s Journal magazine.
“It’s easier to understand downtown Austin after you realize there are always two versions of the city jostling for position,” the magazine says. “The older version is the friendly, funky college town that’s long been a counter-cultural capital (think Matthew McConaughey). Then there’s the newer, glossier version full of high-energy overachievers (Lance Armstrong). The good news is that this cultural clash has created a vibrant setting alongside the banks of Town Lake.”
This has been an installment of Award Watch.
