Freshman phenom Blaire Luna

Starting tonight and running through Saturday, the No. 7 national seed University of Texas softball squad will be hosting the four-team double-elimination NCAA Softball Regional Championship at McCombs Field. Their three guests are the Iona College Gaels, the East Carolina Pirates, and the Brigham Young Cougars.

Freshman pitching sensation Blaire Luna has garnered comparisons to UT softball legend Cat Osterman, heady stuff ’round these parts. Despite a couple of recent shaky performances, Luna boasts a 29-8 win-loss record in 43 appearances, a 1.25 ERA, 26 complete games in 31 starts, and 372 strikeouts in 223.2 innings pitched.

Luna is backed by an offense which hit a school-record 83 homers this season. Courtney Craig and Tallie Thrasher are tied for the team lead with 12. Nadia Taylor is out front with a .383 batting average while Taylor Hoagland is hitting .381 and has a team-high 16 stolen bases.
