The Pease Park Conservancy commissioned artist Patrick Dougherty to create an environmental sculpture for the park. Working with his son Sam and the assistance of Austin Tree Experts and dozens of volunteers, Dougherty brought 10 tons of ligustrum, Roosevelt willow, and ash to Custer’s Meadow and built a cluster of structures over three weeks in January. The finished work, which he calls Yippee Ki Yay, opened to the public in late January. -
