Considering this Thursday’s City Council meeting is a 152-item slog, maybe the Hustle shouldn’t try to run it all down in one post. Today, let’s take a look at items 84 to 93 – the items from council.
Items from Council highlights:
Item 83, from lead sponsor Lee Leffingwell, lengthens the term limit for board officers from two to three years.
Item 87, lead sponsor Laura Morrison, lengthens the time people have to retrieve lost pets from city shelter to no less than three business (i.e., non-weekend) days.
Item 90, lead sponsor Mike Martinez, also deals with animals, creating an ordinance that would ban retail sale of dogs and cats in pet stores. “A a review of USDA inspection reports from more than 100 breeders who sold animals to the nation’s largest retail pet store chain revealed more than 60 percent of the inspections found serious violations of basic animal care standards, including sick or dead animals in their cages, lack of proper veterinary care, inadequate shelter from weather conditions, and dirty, unkempt cages that were too small,” reads the item backup.
Item 91, lead sponsor Chris Riley, would “[confirm] that the City Council recognizes and endorses U.S. Department of Transportation bicycle and pedestrian policies and encourages interdepartmental cooperation in ongoing processes related to the goals reflected in these policies.”

On the city calendar: A special-called meeting of Council’s Comprehensive Planning and Transportation Committee happens in City Hall’s Council Chambers, 310 W. Second, 12pm.
The Sustainable Food Policy Board meets in the Board and Commission room in City Hall, 12:30pm.
The Human Rights Commission meets in Council Chambers at 5:30pm.
The Design Commission meets in the B&C room at 5:45pm.
A special-called meeting of the Waterfront Planning Advisory Board is convening in One Texas Center, Room 500, 505 Barton Springs, 6pm.
The Historic Landmark Commission takes over Council Chambers at 7pm.
The Library Commission meets in Little Walnut Creek branch library, 835 W. Rundberg, 7pm.
