The Austin City Council has scheduled a series of public hearings and work sessions leading up to the final vote on the 1999 budget. Council must approve the budget by Sept. 16, with the fiscal year beginning Oct. 1. The budget itinerary is listed below, with all public hearings held at City Council chambers, 307 W. 2nd St., and work sessions held at Town Lake Center, 721 Barton Springs Road.


Public Hearings

Today (Aug. 13), 6pm – Transportation and infrastructure.

Aug. 20, 7pm – Smart growth, neighborhoods and housing.

Aug. 27, 6:30pm – Public safety, work force, health and human services.

Sept. 3, 6:30pm – Employee salaries, parks, libraries, Austin Convention and Visitors Bureau.

Work Sessions (all 1:30pm)

Aug. 19 – Planning, housing, electric utility.

Aug. 26 – Public safety, health, homeless initiatives, municipal court.

Council has the option of adding another budget work session before final adoption.
