Branford Marsalis Quartet

Coltrane’s A Love Supreme Live in Amsterdam (Marsalis Music)

It’s taken nearly 40 years for anyone to attempt, but saxophonist Branford Marsalis’ Quartet is perhaps the only jazz band with the integrity and moxie to take on John Coltrane’s magnum opus. BMQ’s electrifying 2003 performance at Amsterdam’s renowned Bimhaus uses the suite’s touchstones to launch a 48-minute statement of interpretative creation. Extras include interviews with widow Alice Coltrane and BMQ discussing this most respected work of jazz spirituality. A second disc contains an audio version of the performance.
