Pandemic taketh away, obviously, but it also giveth, like Dreamland’s 64 acres of Texas Hill Country. Recreation center, sports hub, live music host, and beer garden/tap room, Dripping Springs’ sprawling vista (carbon neutral) cohabitates both organic opportunity for natural social distancing and endless runway for crucial CenTex summer bacchanalia. A big bold moon brings out Austin’s afrodelic life-marrow suckers, the Golden Dawn Arkestra, revisiting the interstellar overdrives of jazz, funk, soul, and psych rock in the freaky-deaky big band manner of Sun Ra. Aiding and abetting is Black Angels frontman Alex Maas, still showing off solo debut Luca with sensitivity and goose bumps. Darkbird and Viben & the Submersibles fill in the campout (optional), an invitation to howl at the moon if ever one beckoned.
