Rebecca
1940, NR, 130 min. Directed by Alfred Hitchcock. Starring Laurence Olivier, Joan Fontaine, George Sanders, Judith Anderson.
REVIEWED By Marjorie Baumgarten, Thu., May 25, 2000
Hitchcock’s first American film remains one of his creepiest. This Daphne du Maurier story relates the plight of a new bride who lives in the shadow of her husband’s former wife. The performances are first-rate, and Anderson as the obsessively attached maid Mrs. Danvers is a perverse gem.
