Hereditary (2018)
Ari Aster’s directorial debut set off a reinvigoration of arthouse horror and catapulted A24 to fame as the most relevant production company of the last decade. It also gave me an entirely sleepless night upon first viewing. Toni Collette’s performance as both a terrifying and deeply sympathetic grieving mother steals the show, but Milly Shapiro and Alex Wolff as her creepy children anchor the real horror of this family drama-turned-supernatural nightmare. The sharp, cacophonous saxophone score will linger in your ear, and one chilling scene will have you checking the corners of your ceiling long after the film ends. A true modern horror classic, it deserves to be seen in the theatre for the collective shock it elicits from first-time viewers. – Lina FisherMay 9-14 -

I love the Bat City Bingo ladies. They’re always up to give you a prize from their incredible collection whether your victory is real or simply deserved. My friend once got a book that was just artistic depictions of Satan! Anyway, those who missed their presence on North Loop after they departed from Tuesday at Dub Trub can now rest easy. Foreign & Domestic 15th Anniversary
Founded back in 2010, Ned and Jodi Elliott’s chef-forward restaurant may have changed ownership after seven years – switching from the Elliotts to Nathan Lemley and Sarah Heard – but the kitchen’s never lost its passion for good food. This fine dining establishment celebrates staying the course for 15 years with an anniversary dinner series. Each edition features guest chefs and FND folks creating collab menus for one-night-only sensations. First among them is a Monday, April 21, feast from chefs Chris Sapp (FND) and Taylor Hall (Apis) with Barley Swine mixologist Chelsea Carter. Further programming features Lemley and Parkside Projects chef Shawn Cirkiel (April 28), Heard and Chef’s PSA’s André Natera (May 12), and a big ol’ party on May 18 featuring a parking lot roast pig. – James ScottApril 21 & 28, May 12 & 18 -

Parish Presents: Butt Stuff Bingo
No one is saying that traditional bingo is boring, but if you enjoy the bluer forms of (verbal) intercourse – and many do – Butt Stuff Bingo could be just right for you. BSB is an interactive game-show themed contest, but instead of grandma rules, with only one winner per contest, Butt Stuff gives multiple contestants the chance to win “novelty” prizes – dildos? – from “specialty” stores. Sev Coursen: “Portable Objects”
For the 45th in their ongoing Window Dressing series, ICOSA pretties up their outward facing exhibition space with the work of Austin-based artist Sev Coursen. Viewable from this coming Monday until next Sunday are Coursen’s many foldable objects, created by him to be “self-contained sculptures” which may collapse, travel, and expand at the whims of their presenting environment. These expansion and collapsing points come from multiple features, including hand-milled wooden articulated hinges. Swing by to see these wonders through ICOSA’s front window, or pop in on May 16 to meet the artist at his reception, 7-9pm. – James ScottMay 12-18 -

Adventurers in parties big and small (six people being the comfortable limit) are invited to join in this newest quest at LARP legend the Tiny Minotaur. At $45 per person, the quest runs about 90 minutes with complimentary snacks and a bevvie included for all the 21-and-above aged participants. From the Minotaur themselves: “It appears the Holy Circlet has sent an ill-experienced Cleric to the Rift to investigate and they are seeking the help of some Adventurers at the Tiny Minotaur! Will you and your party be able to help your new Cleric companion return to the Holy Circlet as a Hero or will you all perish on a mission ill-fated from the start?!” – James ScottMondays, Sundays and Mon., Nov. 25
