Rooster Teeth Takes Over the Internet For RTX at Home

By Richard Whittaker, July 28, 2020, 11:25pm, Picture in Picture

With film and TV festivals trying to find ways to jump to streaming in the year of the pandemic, trust Austin's Rooster Teeth to blaze a trail by converting its RTX gathering from a long weekend at the Austin Convention Center to a massive 11-day online event.

Rooster Teeth (the locally based online entertainment leviathan that is the home of smash hit American anime RWBY, the Michael B. Jordan-starring SF drama gen:LOCK, pioneering machinima Red Vs. Blue, new YA adventure Recorded by Arizal, and the upcoming Transformers: War For Cybertron trilogy for Netflix) has held the RTX gathering every year since 2011. In that time, it's grown from basically a small studio tour to a huge event that brings tens of thousands of visitors to Austin, and fills the convention center. This year was going to be the biggest yet, but due to the coronavirus lockdown the studio was forced to first postpone, then cancel the in-person event.

However, the studio announced today that they'll be running the mammoth RTX at Home via www.roosterteeth.com and the Rooster Teeth app. The team has already been producing dozens of hours of fresh weekly content remotely for subscribers to the Rooster Teeth First service during the pandemic, but they'll be upping their already considerable game over the streaming event, with watch parties, series reveals, and virtual events, all included in the First $5-a-month subscription. There will also be additional limited-access night time events, and First members will get the first chance on tickets.

Yet while the bulk of the content will be exclusively available to subscribers, several of the biggest panels - including for RWBY season 8 and Red vs. Blue: Zero, both of which were confirmed over the weekend at Comic-Con - will be free for all viewers.
