If there ever were a city in which to be an emerging artist, Austin is it. Tonight's launch of new online fashion mag Velvet Dust heralds a new venue for Austin style.
From bar stages to cafe galleries, the creative members of our city are hardly lacking in avenues to display their work for public consumption. Velvet Dust, created by former By George manager Jessica Thompson, debuts tonight as a quarterly online magazine that publishes themed content revolving around culture, fashion, and art. Tonight, March 27, Velvet Dust is hosting a launch party at The Palm Door. Guests can get a look at the magazine while snacking on sliders and grilled cheese from new food stand Royale With Cheese. Local Cure cover band Love Cats will be performing at the event, and the Confetti Committee will have an intergalactic photo booth set up as well. Doors open at 8pm, and there is no cover. Velvet Dust accepts submissions via email to [email protected] in an array of formats, from journalism to digital media. Proceeds from each issue will be donated to nonprofits and social movements.
A note to readers: Bold and uncensored, The Austin Chronicle has been Austin’s independent news source for over 40 years, expressing the community’s political and environmental concerns and supporting its active cultural scene. Now more than ever, we need your support to continue supplying Austin with independent, free press. If real news is important to you, please consider making a donation of $5, $10 or whatever you can afford, to help keep our journalism on stands.
