Star Party We used to be in a rock band. And we say rock, we mean
“R-A-W-K,” baby. Yup, those were the days… the free booze, the chicks, the
camaraderie, the musical synergy, the chicks, the overflowing appreciation from fans, the
chicks, the terrific payday at the end of the night from generous clubowners…
Bwah Hah Ha Ha HA HA HA! Yeah, right. Actually, we never knew how valuable we were
because what popularity we had was owed to the dozens of charity shows we played
across town. Sure it sounds like no fun to play your guts out for free, but to be honest,
our most loyal and enthusiastic fans who turned out to support our other
endeavors came from the public service community and audiences from our many fundraising
shows. So, it is with a nostalgic wistfulness that we heartily endorse this and any
other call for musicians to help. The Trudy’s 20th Anniversary Music Fest &
Street Party
seeks bands to play Sun, Oct 12 at the Austin Music Hall. The event
is the Texas Star’s gift to Austin (mmmmm, do sauted mushrooms come with
that?) and all profits will benefit AIDS Services of Austin and the Center
for Battered Women
. Send your demos, CDs, press kits, and sparkly attitudes
to any of Trudy’s locations: 409 W. 30th; Burnet & 183; 360 & S. Lamar.
Deadline for applications is Sat, Aug 30. 476-2548. Who Loves Ya Baby? We’re
not sure if he’s the real Herbie, but the “Love Bug” will be the

celebrates its 20th Anniversary with the giveaway of a restored ’78 VW Bug. You,
too, can tool around town just like a Mexico City cabbie! Other prizes include two
round-trip tickets anywhere American Airlines flies, a shopping spree at Highland Mall,
and a stay at the Renaissance Hotel. The Bug will be on display at the following
ticket sales locations: Sat-Sun, Aug 2-3 at Sam’s Wholesale, Capitol of Texas Hwy
