Chaps & Lassos... Yeeee-Haw! The Texas Gay Rodeo Association (TGRA) is hosting a Yard Sale, Sat, Nov 29, 9am-3pm at 1803 Temple (3/4 mile east of Airport on MLK). They promise lots of tasteful (gay cowpokes?! How can ya go wrong?) and quasi-tasteful items. The buncha bullriders have raised over $1.5 million for groups like Project Transitions, Pediatric AIDS League, Center for Battered Women, and more. Donations for the sale will also be accepted. 928-2776. Toward No More World AIDS Days Art's power to communicate, express, and stimulate is sacrificed each World AIDS Day, December 1 for the Day Without Art to symbolize the significance of every life lost to AIDS. This Mon, Dec 1 resurrects our annual community tribute, Body Count, a performance/non-performance to gather people together to remember those we have lost and to send a message of hope and support to those currently living with HIV. Body Count begins at 6pm at Cesar Chavez & Congress, where folks meet to begin a silent walk up Congress Avenue. The walk ends at the Capitol Building, where participants lie down on scattered flower petals on the walkway. After the audience participation, local performers including Andrea Beckham, Tina Marsh, Lourdes Pérez, Boyd Vance, and more will bring art back to the people, where it belongs. 447-6222.

ThunderCloud Subs annual Turkey Trot is at 9am, Thanksgiving morning, Thu, Nov 27. The 5 mile competitive and fun run, 1.2 mile fun walk, and kids' run starting at the Zilker Soccer Fields is to benefit Caritas of Austin, who will have their hands full doing what they do best -- caring for Austin's working poor, homeless, and legal refugees throughout this busy holiday season. 479-8815, ext. 401. A Place at the Table Out Youth is making sure that there's room at the table for everybody, Thu, Nov 27, 2pm, Thanksgiving Day. It's a safe, welcoming, and free Thanksgiving Pot Luck Lunch for gay and lesbian youth at Cornerstone, 1117 Red River. You don't even have to bring a dish. Area eateries are donating the grub, and adult and younger volunteers are still needed for set-up. Pro basketball is hitting the boards here in town as the Austin Cyclones play their first home game, Fri, Nov 28 at the Toney Burger Center. A portion of the night's proceeds will go to Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA), the folks who provide a child's "voice in court" for kids removed from homes in abuse or neglect cases. This time, though, the court has a basket at each end, two teams of squeaking sneakers (Austin plays the El Paso Flames), and a home team section of screaming fans. Their goal is to provide each child with three gifts (toy, socks/undies, stuffed animal, etc.). You can either donate new items or elect to Adopt a Family for Christmas. 892-4776.
