  One part of a greater track-and-field trio of shows, GLHF presents art from Brian Dulaney, Drake Konow, Gerardo Cisneros, Justin Leal, Tim McCool, Kevin Muñoz, Marissa Dunagan, Phillip Niemeyer, and Preetal Shah. All these pieces speak to their experiences while analog traveling – you know, using their legs rather than a car or skateboard. This show organizes under the banner of Artist Run Club, coordinated by Northern-Southern and focused on the quick-paced art intelligentsia of Texas.: – James Scott

  Riot Fair

  I’ve analyzed the projections and looked at all the research: My conclusion is rock solid. Yes, I’ve concluded that this Thursday night on Fourth Street will be a riot … for Riot Fair, that is. Tear down the house with host Riot Girl, cast members Titty Androgynous & Venus Rising, and DJ Ruby Knight. Their drag spectacular will shock white streaks in your hair, spin your chair, and make you shout – as will the nice early start time of 8:30pm. Look, sometimes you need to riot responsibly on a school night! – James Scott

  Saving Face (2005)

  I’m a sucker for intergenerational stories, particularly if they’re about parents and kids dealing with romance. There’s a real fun chaos to the idea: parents having to commiserate with their kid over dating troubles, forcing a new equality of situation into a historically uneven power dynamic. In director Alice Wu’s debut feature, protag Wil (Michelle Krusiec, Duplex) must take in her pregnant mother (Joan Chen, Twin Peaks), whose unwed status has her on the outs with her father. While Wil’s in the closet with her mom, she becomes enamored with her boss’ daughter (Lynn Chen, a five-episode recurring doctor on Grey’s Anatomy), who butts heads with her own father over choosing modern dance over ballet. Social expectations get broken; love comes from unexpected places; and hearts do change, even if it takes a little while. – James Scott

  TechKermés by Latinitas

  Nonprofit Latinitas unveiled a new mission and vision statement in January, reframing the mission “To empower girls and their communities through culturally relevant education,” envisioning “A future where Latinas lead with confidence.” To that end, they’re throwing a free afternoon community festival celebrating all things technology and arts, featuring interactive, hands-on activities with drones, 3D printing, virtual reality, robotics, and more. Radio-star emcees Karla “La Guerita” Alonso and Ana Caremi present live performances from Danzas Folklóricas, Roy Lozano’s Ballet Folklórico de Texas, Estilo Peruano, and more at the noon-4pm fest. – Kat McNevins
