KUTX and the Breakfast Boogie Present: Pride Family Rainbow Party

Dominic Toretto once said, “Family,” and that really meant a lot to me. So much so that I’m telling all y’all about this family-friendly Pride celebration kicked off by our trusty local radio station KUTX. Join their series the Breakfast Boogie for a morning mashup of local musicians: Mama Duke, Caleb De Casper, Charlie Faye, and the Strawbitty Yops. Music’s not the only fun on offer, though. Parents and kids alike can take part in drag storytime with Brigitte Bandit, Pride puppet making, a family dance party, giant bubbles, and plenty of heat-beating popsicles. Plus, this event wraps up at noon – just enough time to get the young ones to a sink so’s you can wash the popsicle residue off before naptime. – James Scott

    Mother Putters

As if Austin wasn’t already bursting with novelty-sport bars: Anyone feeling underserved by the corporate-fun of Top Golf may find the exact balance of silly and spirit-filled at new Putt-Putt golf bar Holey Moley. Here also will be found new Extragrams drag show Mother Putters, where hosts Lawrie Bird and Harlot present a combo platter of Hole-in-Won trivia and classic drag bingo. Winners earn free food and drinks, and Extragrams notes that trivia is not golf-focused. “We don’t know anything about that,” their Insta post assures. “We’re here for the visors.” – James Scott

    Divina: Noche Drag Latinx

At the start of her drag career, Divina host Tatiana Cholula told Qmmunity she’d be critiqued for not assimilating enough “American” culture into her acts. “Before I started Divina,” she said, “the scene was rich in amazing Latinx drag performers and artists, but there weren’t any spaces focused on them or they didn’t feel comfortable performing certain songs at certain spaces.” Thankfully, Tatiana did start Divina, and now every other Wednesday you’ll see Oilcan Harry’s stage taken over by the spirits of Latina legends like Gloria Estefan and Paulina Rubio – courtesy of local Latinx drag talent. – James Scott
