The Trial of Joan of Arc
NR, 65 min. Directed by Robert Bresson. Starring Florence Carrez, Jean-Claude Fourneau, Roger Honorat.
REVIEWED By Marjorie Baumgarten, Thu., Sept. 7, 2000
Perhaps Bresson’s most famous film, The Trial of Joan of Arc is shot entirely in medium shots and close-ups. The dialogue comes from the trial transcript and the film’s austerity echoes the martyr’s situation.
