    Jo's Coffee Celebrates Barbie

    In celebration of the upcoming Barbie movie launch, Jo’s iconic I Love You So Much wall on South Congress is hand-painted to feature a cute message from Ken to Barbie for a four-day takeover. In addition, Jo’s SoCo will be offering two tasty pink bevvies: Malibu Jo’s, a strawberry coconut lemonade, and the Malibu Sunset, a frozen version of the pink lemonade. Stop by and celebrate America's favorite doll!

    Special Screenings

    The True Cost (2015)

    Patagonia and Anact, an org focused on activism in the textile industry, present an evening of conversation on sustainability, community, and innovation. The documentary about the impact of fashion on people and the planet will screen, followed by a panel moderated by Emily Ramshaw of the 19th (formerly Texas Tribune) with industry leaders who are doing work to improve the role the textile industry plays on the climate crisis. A VIP afterparty will be held at Patagonia.

    AARC Open Call for Artists

    The Asian American Resource Center Exhibits Program aims to foster and promote artists and curators whose work embodies the AARC's mission, vision, and values and to create spaces of belonging and healing for Asian American communities in Austin and beyond. An independent panel will review all submissions and the top applicants will be chosen for exhibitions at the AARC.

    ArtConnect Youth Art Contest

    The city's fourth annual contest is open now for submissions from Austin students ages 10 to 18. In honor of Digital Inclusion Week (Oct. 2-6), young artists are asked to "picture a world where everyone is connected digitally." The top three entries win a monetary prize and will have their artwork displayed in city spaces.

    Beat the Heat

    With Central Texas experiencing extremely high temperatures, city leaders issued a reminder to be aware of Excessive Heat Watch and Excessive Heat Warning alerts from the National Weather Service. A warning means action should be taken immediately to avoid heat-related illness. The city began a pilot program in July at Republic Square with misting tents and cold bottled water, and always offers facilities like rec centers and libraries as cooling centers. In addition, city pool fees are waived Aug. 9-Sept. 30, except for Barton Springs. Visit the city's website for more information, and always check before you head to an outdoor event: For safety, organizers may cancel events that put people at risk due to the heat.

    Fresh for Less Mobile Markets

    This program from the city of Austin, run by Farmshare Austin, has opened new market locations. There are now six weekly markets around town that sell Texas-grown produce, eggs, honey, and other groceries all at reduced prices. Most major cards are accepted at these markets and if you are a SNAP customer, you can also use your Lone Star card and Double Up Food Bucks. Locations and schedules are subject to change, so check the current info online to find one near you.
