    New Year Mimosa Run

Start your year the right way … and the wrong way. The fine and fit folks at Rogue Running will host a 3-7 mile jaunt through Austin – that’s the healthy part – followed by mimosas, coffee, and sparkling cider – that’s the unhealthy part, although it might help your mental health. Maybe this will be a whole new fitness leaf you’ll be turning over, but even if your resolution to run only lasts for that one day, you’ll still be that tiny bit healthier going into what promises to be a grueling 2025. – James Renovitch

    Polar Bear Splash

No polar bears were invited to this year’s plunge, as far as I know, but they wouldn’t like the weather in Austin anyway. A bit too humid, TBH! So this event rec goes out to all our non-polar bear readers, many of whom are humanoid and will take great delight in hopping feet first into the chilly Barton Springs. I’ll say this: It’s certainly a unique way to welcome the new year. Cold, wet, and awake too early – such is the edict for 2025. Of course, you can always hit up Save Our Springs for free coffee and donuts to warm up post-plunge. – James Scott

    Holiday Mall Blood Drives

It can be increasingly difficult to avoid the mall during the holidays, but if you need a selfless reason to help you swallow the capitalistic excesses that creep up this time of year, Central Texas’ nonprofit blood center has your back. They’re running multiple blood drives over the next few weeks, a time when donations often slow down. Give a pint and wear that little bandage with a sense of superiority while you blow some cash on crap for that cousin you barely tolerate. [Editor’s Note: We Are Blood also offers a free branded long-sleeve shirt and Alamo Drafthouse movie ticket to all donors – so maybe donate a li’l blood and catch one of our many Drafthouse Calendar picks for freesies.Tis’ the sanguine season, and all that goodwill to all humans business.] – James Renovitch

    Trivia 512

We really have no shortage of trivia events in this town full of smarties, but what grabbed my attention with this one was the quality of the prizes. First place gets $125 to spend at happenin’ host venue Radio, plus $15 to whiskey distillery Still Austin, and second place wins $75 at Radio and $15 at Still. Third place is even a good prize: a bag of high-quality Radio coffee beans and a koozie. So dust off the ol’ brain, grab some buds, and head over to Radio on Wednesdays to give it a go. Fuel up beforehand with a 5-7 happy hour and discounted burgers, fries, and chicken sandwiches from Shortwave. – Kat McNevins
