    The George Lucas Talk Show

We all have our niche enjoyments, and for me, that’s this talk show/experience featuring the real George Lucas (as played by Connor Ratliff) and the real Toydarian Watto (as played by Griffin Newman). Deep 2020 malaise attacks were defeated when I watched Lucas, Watto, and producer Patrick Cotnoir lose their minds in Zoom windows while they forced actors, directors, and comedian friends to discuss cultural miscellanea such as Lucas’ freakish animated ELO musical Strange Magic. As if knowing the current newscycle had me in a similar spiral to early COVID, GLTS hits Austin on the first Thursday of December. Special guests include filmmaker Andrew Bujalski and critic and author Matt Zoller Seitz. – James Scott

      Blue Genie Art Bazaar

This annual holiday market has been doing the unique, artisanal gift thing for long enough to have pretty much perfected it. Get in, grab the items to help check folks off your giftee list, and check out. You might want to take a business card from the booths you buy from so when the person opening your gift inevitably wants to know where you got it, you’ll be one step ahead. Online shopping and shipping is also available for folks unable to visit in person. – James Renovitch

      Winter Wanderland

Iconic Austin Motel always does it up colorfully for the holidays, modifying their motto to “Snow Close, Yet Snow Far Out” and decking the halls with all the hues. This year they’re setting up festivities at the new Rocky’s Bar, named in honor of late motel cat Rocky, and serving festive drinks like shotskis and Mexican frozen chocolate by the fire. Extra festive events happen Thursdays through Sundays, kicking off with the tree lighting and KUTX Old-School Dance Party Dec. 5 from 6 to 9pm, and followed by sing-alongs, pop-up markets, toy drives, visits from Hunky Santa, holiday films, and more. – Kat McNevins
